I have had a life long interest in performance. As an elite athlete at university I developed a fascination with what a person can achieve individually or as part of a team, which became my enduring interest.
My origins as a coach began with my degree and post graduate qualification in Physical Education. I was an officer in the Physical Education Branch of the UK’s Royal Air Force. There I coached high performance teams to a physical and mental peak to perform in the most extreme situations.
The last 25 years has seen me working globally as a leadership and performance coach working across various sectors and complex business environments. Much of my current work is with C suite and senior leaders who wish to transform or create high performance teams within their organisations.
My work as a leadership and performance coach centres upon an “independence” model. I work with clients to enable them to understand and adopt the skills that will allow them to be successful with the challenge at hand and then to be able to adapt and apply those skills to new and emerging situations. Repeat work comes from the enjoyment of the learning and growth rather than dependence on the coach.
When not working, I continue to explore and study different areas of physical well -being. During lockdown I gained a Post Graduate Diploma (Distinction) in Nutrition and Exercise Science. I am also a qualified Breathing Coach with a specialism in Athletic Performance. As a breathing coach I work with opera singers, yogis, MMA fighters and competitive weightlifters. In a corporate setting, I teach executives breathing techniques that enable them to remain calm and focussed in high stress situations; how to manage their fight, flight or freeze reflex, and how to regain energy and relax.
In addition to being a keen hill walker, I am also a proponent of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and yoga.
